Yaa Yaa (born Bertha Bridget Kankam in 1990) is an artist from Ghana who plays the guitar and xylophone.
Yaa Yaa graduated from the University of Ghana with a bachelor’s degree in theatre arts and music. After graduating, Yaa Yaa participated in musical theatre performances in and outside Africa.
She burst onto the music scene after winning the fourth edition of the 2009 Stars Future music reality show in Ghana. Since then she has been releasing music which spans from highlife, Afropop and soul. Some of her songs include 'Dumb Drum', 'Kae', 'Incredible', 'Am I', 'Koryor', and 'Life'. She has won several awards and nominations at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
Yaa Yaa has performed at Acces 2019, Africa Day Festival in Hamburg, Beserlpark Festival, Porgy and Bess, Felaberation and Ghana Music Awards.
She has served as a brand ambassador for MTN Ghana.
Yaa Yaa began her acting career in 2009 with musical theatre like “Beauty and the Beast” and “Sound of music”. She did a lot of stage performances while studying Theatre Arts and Music at the School of Performing Arts of the University of Ghana. She starred in plays like “Adam and Eve”, “The Ugly Duckling”, “Now I Ask You” just to name a few.
In the movie world Yaa Yaa has worked with directors like Leila Djansi and Pascal Amanfo doing soundtracks for the movies “Like Cotton Twines” and “No Man’s Land” respectively.
She has acted with Roverman Productions in different plays by Uncle Ebo Whyte.
